Last-placed Manly account for first-placed Storm

The Manly Sea Eagles have broken their losing streak with a gritty 12-10 win over the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on Saturday night. Manly fought back from 10-2 at half time to post a much needed win in wet conditions in Melbourne.

A bludger of a contest was in store due to the rainy conditions in Melbourne and the 1st half delivered with David Williams penalty goal the only score on the board at the 18 minute mark before Koroibete scored the first try of the game through a barnstorming run where he recieved the ball on the wing, cut inside the defenders and forced his way over to give the home side the lead.

The Storm were in again on 32 minutes when Storm five-eighth Blake Green split the Manly defence down the middle and passed it back on the inside for Cronk who dived over between the posts to give the Storm a 10-2 lead heading into the sheds at half time.

The 2nd half started off much the same as the 1st with both sides jockeying for field position and it was the away side who got the first points after resumption, as Tom Symonds ran onto a Daly Cherry-Evans short ball and he slid over the chalk to put a dent into the Storm's lead.

With both sides going close to scoring at either end and trying to play attacking football in the wet it wasn't until the 72nd minute did we see David Williams go over in the corner for Manly from a quality Cherry-Evans cut out pass. It was Wolfman's first try in the NRL since the 2013 preliminary final. This was enough for Manly as they showed great character to come from behind and win against a well drilled Storm outfit.

This was a win that Manly badly needed as they posted just their 2nd win of the season but still remain last on the ladder. With the Dragons earlier win, the Storm slipped from top spot on the ladder.

When the NRL returns after the rep weekend in mid-May, both sides feature in Sunday afternoon footy on May 10 - the Sea Eagles return to Brookvale for the first time since Round 3 when they host Newcastle at 2pm, while the 4pm free-to-air game will see the Parramatta Eels host the Storm at Pirtek Stadium.
