The Sydney Roosters have extended their minor premiership hopes with a 56-14 thrashing over the Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium in front of 8,393 supporters.
Two quick penalties helped Jake Friend to duck under a tackle from Tedesco to score after just 4 minutes.
While the Roosters forward powered down the field, their backline couldn’t hold the ball. Ayshford makes Wests’ first break down the field and earnt a penalty, which invited Lote Tuqiri, in his first game since Rd18, 2012 to score in the corner and make it 6-all after 15 minutes.
Wests almost took the lead in the 20 minute after a Benji Marshall banana kick in field. But Tedesco couldn’t ground the ball before putting his foot on the dead ball line.
SBW was welcomed back to the Roosters as he charged over the goal line and scored with a few Tigers on his back.
Then the game found some fire. Galloway and O’Donnell had words and some pushing and shoving. Wests received the penalty as O’Donnell started the biff. But O’Donnell wasn’t finished. A few plays later, he cartwheeled Tim Simona and was put on report. He was lucky to not be put in the bin.
The first half finished with a penalty goal to Maloney, who made it 3/3 in the first half.
After a slow start to the second half, the Roosters scored first but with mixed reaction from the public. The on-field referee called try but the ball looked to be held up. But the video referee decided to stick with the on-field decision and awarded a try to Daniel Mortimer.
Mortimer made it two tries in 2 minutes after a break from Issac Liu helped Mortimer down the field to score next to the posts.
The flood gates began to open when Daniel Tupou broke away from the scrum and scored under the posts in the 50th minute. After that try, the flood gates truly opened with 3 tries to Pearce, Jennings and Pearce again.
In the last 10 minutes, we saw tries to Jennings for the Roosters and Tedesco and Sironen for Wests.
The final score was 56-14.
