This Sunday from 12:35pm at Olympic Park, the Australian Schoolboys team clashes with the Junior Kiwis in the first of their two Test series.
The Melbourne Storm has two contracted players involved, Daniel Isaac for the Australians, and Viliami (Sika) Manu for the New Zealanders. Isaac, a strong running centre, is in his second year of a four-year contract, while back-rower Manu is in the first year of a three-year contract. Both players are currently plying their trade with Storms Brisbane feeder club, Norths Devils.
There will be plenty of other exceptional talent on show in the First Test with several players already making names for themselves in the NRL.
For the Australians, the halves pairing of Jarrod Mullen and Mitchell Pearce, son of former Australian and Balmain great Wayne Pearce, will offer a glimpse into what the next 10-15 years of top level rugby league will look like in this country.
Mullen has already played several NRL games for Newcastle this year, and Pearce is one of the hottest young prospects in the game, with no less than six NRL clubs vying for the halfback's signature, including the Melbourne Storm.
At 12:00pm on Saturday, the Australian team will be joining the Melbourne Storm squad for a bar-b-que at Storm headquarters.
After the game, both teams will be attending a post-match function in the Champions Room at Olympic Park.
(David Kidwell, a former Junior Kiwi, and Ryan Hoffman, a former Australian Schoolboy representative, were on hand to pass on some advice in the lead up to the big game - see photo attached).
