France has opened their World Cup campaign with a hard fought 36-18 victory over Scotland in Canberra.

The early period of the match was dogged by errors, and France opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a long range try started by the prop, Fellous and finished by the fullback Jared Taylor. Scotland replied only three minutes later with Jon Steel scoring off a nice set play.
