International History: Scotland hosted a test between Australia and England in 1911. Many Scots played in England and went on to represent Great Britain over the years, as well as playing for Other Nationalities teams in European matches. Scotland played in the 1995 Emerging Nations World Cup, and soon after were granted full international status by the Rugby League International Federation.

Domestic History: The first organised rugby league in Scotland started in the 1980s in schools of the Lanarkshire district directly to the east of Glasgow. A Scottish university student side was formed in 1987 to compete in the 1989 Student World Cup. In the 1990s a Scottish club entered the English North-East regional amateur league, and in 1994 the Scottish Rugby League was formed. The Scottish domestic competition is played between April and August as a regional division of the UK
