In the Spotlight - Rep Round

Well what do you know, Snow; it looks like The Spotlight was Spotright yet again.

Two blokes were thrown to the wolves last week by yours truly, Mr Michael Jennings and Sir Kurt Gidley* and unfortunately for them, they were eaten. Okay, they weren't eaten, but they struggled, badly.
*This is one Knight who will never be Knighted.

How different it could have been had James Maloney, another recent Spotlight-ee, not thrown the pill at Jenno's chest at approximately 120 kilometres per hour in the dying moments of the Chooks v Saints Anzac Day clash. If the candy man* catches that, (he was running at 240 clicks an hour) it's hard to see anything but a match-winning try in the corner for the tri-colours. But as I always say, what-if's don't win games.
*Yeah, I'm still trying to make that one stick.

Meanwhile, Captain Kurt was dropping more pill than a week-long Soundwave concert. Newcastle were desperate for a win and they pushed the red-hot Cowboys all the way, but ultimately fell 26-24. At least he was honest about his performance in the post-game presser.
"Mate I was like a Justin Bieber concert out there, just terrible," he said.

"I got put In The Spotlight and I couldn't handle the pressure that comes with being targeted by one of the greatest predictors-slash-wordsmiths on the planet."*
*None of this was said.

What's the haps this week? Read on, grasshopper.

Greg Bird

Haven't you heard? G. Bird might need to go buy himself a few lottery tickets this week after retaining his spot in the Kangaroos line up after an in-sniff-erent, sorry, indifferent, start to the season. We all know the big Bird loves the big games, so I'm expecting the Titan to bounce back against a strong Kiwi pack. Another Blue who needs to lift with Origin a stone's throw away.

Martin Taupau

Let's just start this by saying I'm a huge fan of the Ka-POW! He hits harder than a scorned wife and runs faster than a misbehaving husband. Marty will provide enormous impact off the bench for the Kiwis this weekend, but this also presents the chance for him to cement his spot long-term in the side. Not to mention the fact the television coverage will give some much-needed publicity for some of the greatest cornrows in the comp, nay, world.

Adios.
