Kiwi prop Fuifui Moimoi is among the six finalists for the 2009 Golden Boot Award.
He has been listed alongside Australians Cameron Smith (2007 winner), Billy Slater (2008 winner) and Greg Inglis as well as England forwards Kevin Sinfield and Gareth Ellis.
Moimoi (30) had a stunning year for beaten grand finalist Parramatta in the NRL and excelled for the Kiwis in his international recall for the Four Nations tournament. After last playing Test football in 2007, Moimoi featured in each of the Kiwis’ three Four Nations matches.
Final voting will be done after Saturday’s England-Australia Four Nations decider.
Earlier this week, Australia’s Jarryd Hayne was named the International Player of the Year at the Rugby League International Federation’s second annual awards dinner held in Leeds. Moimoi made the Team of the Year at prop while Kiwi captain Benji Marshall was named at standoff. The remaining seven positional awards were split between four Australians and three England players.
The Gold Boot Award has been in existence since 1985. It went into recess for a period in the 1990s but, in the 16 years it has been awarded, Australian players have dominated with only two New Zealanders featuring – Hugh McGahan in 1988 and Stacey Jones in 2002 – while the only Great Britain players honoured have been Ellery Hanley in 1989 and Andrew Farrell in 2004.
