Broderick Wright has been a consistent performer in the Eels development ranks for some time, making his NRL debut against the Cowboys in 2008. Wright plays Prop/Second row and will be joining the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2010. Broderick recently spoke to Jeremy Pinney of League Unlimited to share some of his views on the game and the finals. How do you see yourself fitting into Cronulla in 2010? “I'm looking forward to the challenge of it all. I've only ever been at Parramatta and in terms of players and coaching staff not much has changed since being there.” “From what I can see next year will be an exciting year. There are a lot of young players coming through, and they've bought really well. There are also a few Parramatta boys who have signed there too, which will make the transition easier as well. “I know there will be some challenges, but from what I’ve learnt at the Eels, I think I’ll go there well prepared.” What position do you see yourself playing? “I've been signed as a front rower. But this year I’ve played a little in the back row as well.” “I will fit in wherever I can and will hopefully train over the off season in both positions. “Like I have this year I’ll fit in wherever I can. I'll play anywhere I can get a start!” Do you ever see yourself forming a combination with Trent Barrett in the halves? “Ha-ha, no I don't think so. I don't think I’ll ever be a halfback. I'll stick to the forwards.” What has been your favourite thing about being at the Eels? “Probably the friendships I have made and the chance I got to play first grade. I've learnt a lot in the years I was at the Eels and it’s made me the player I am.” “I will always consider Parramatta as my home town and the team that gave me a start, so I will always look back at my time there fondly.” Do you ever see yourself returning to Parra? “You never say never, as I said, I’m really looking forward to my time at the Sharks. But after two years there I’ll have to reassess where I'm at. “If Parramatta wants to have me back it will always be something I’d think long and hard about. “I can't really say until the time comes. But as I said previously I'll always love Parramatta.” Will you find it hard playing first grade against your old club? “I wouldn't say it will be hard. I’ll be looking forward to it if anything. It will be interesting playing against my mates. I'd be hoping to impress though.” How do you see Parra going against the Dogs? “It will be a very even contest. No matter what the teams end up like on the night both sides will give it everything. “Of course I’d say Parra will win, but I’m hoping from a fans point of view it’s a great game to watch. “It will definitely be physical and if our forwards keep producing like they have it will make things easier for our game breakers like Haynzey.” Broderick also gave some advice for younger fans that would like to fulfil a career in the NRL or with Rugby League. “Mate, the best advice to someone who wants a future in the NRL is to keep your feet grounded. “You're going to get a lot of setbacks along the way and a lot of doors have to open if you want to play in the NRL. “Some people are late bloomers, as was I, so the main thing is to keep plugging away and busting your gut and if you’re meant to get there you will. “You need some ability but without the hard work you won't get anywhere.”
