The VB Gold Country Origin team completed their preparations for Friday nights Country v City match earlier today with a final training run at Wade Park in Orange.

Country Coach Laurie Daley said the preparation during the week had been spot on in the Country camp and said the team had come together nicely in the limited sessions they had in the lead up.

“It’s been terrific, the guys have trained extremely well and we have one more training session to go and I can’t complain,” Daley said. “We’re a very happy camp and we’re ready to go.”

Daley said the focus of the week had been getting the players familiar with each other and the way each individual played and expected a tough battle right across the park.

“In a short preparation you can’t do too much with the team you just need to give them some direction and let them play what’s in front of them on the night,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a very hard game of football and I expect it to be very tough too and hopefully the Country boys get the right result.”

With less than a week to prepare for the match Daley said he was happy with the way the group had adjusted so quickly to the style of play Country were working for and said the level of skill and talent had shone through all week.

“I’ve been impressed with the way the seventeen guys have come together in the short space of time,” he said. “It’s very difficult to do that with players coming together from different clubs and they’ve only had four days to prepare, but they’re so professional in the way they go about it and the preparation has been fantastic.”

Country captain Andrew Ryan said the team had enjoyed their week in camp and in the Orange region and said the team was keen to show the locals and Country fans what they had to offer.

“We’ve had a really good week it’s been perfect out here in Orange and everyone has looked after us and the locals have been great,” he said. “We have our last session at the ground today and with everything starting to take shape I think the boys will start to get excited about the game.”

Ryan said the support of the town and the Country community proved how much the game means to them and said the players had been more than happy to put their hands up to be involved in all the activities throughout the week.

“It’s think it’s important this week that we’ve done plenty of promotion around the game in the area, the local kids don’t get to see NRL stars very often so I think its great for them to meet their hero’s so its been a good week.”
